Blocks, straps, bolsters, blankets and the wall. What each one does, and when reaching for it makes the posture better rather than easier.
Blocks
They bring the floor up to meet you. In a standing forward fold a block under each hand lets the spine lengthen instead of rounding, which is the whole point of the pose. Two blocks are better than one.
Straps
A strap extends your arms. Hamstring stretches on the back, shoulder openers, binds you cannot reach yet. Hold it loosely; a strap that is being yanked is a strap being used wrong.
Bolsters and blankets
Support for anything long and still. A bolster under the knees in rest, along the spine for a chest opener, under the hips in a seated fold. Blankets do the same job in smaller amounts and keep you warm in the last ten minutes, which matters more than people think.
The wall
The oldest prop and the most honest. Legs up the wall at the end of a long day does more than most sequences. Use it.
