Restorative & Breath

Tom de Vries

How they teach

Tom came to yoga through breathwork and now teaches the studio's slowest, quietest classes, sound bowls included.

He spent his twenties as a paramedic and learned to slow his own breathing long before he learned a single posture. That is still where his teaching starts: with the exhale, and with the nervous system that follows it. His Restorative classes use bolsters, blankets and low light, and finish with forty minutes of singing bowls.

Nothing in his classes needs to be achieved. Postures are held with full support, the room stays warm and it is fine to fall asleep; several people do every week.

He also teaches the breath and nervous system workshop and the occasional early morning pranayama session for the teachers.
